Ethiopia Single Origin Coffee

Ethiopia, famed for being the birthplace of the coffee plant, offers a single origin coffee with a rich and bright flavor. Centuries of cultivation and tradition surround the coffees of Ethiopia and you will love the delicate floral and caramel flavors of this season's crop.

As the lore is told, Kaldi, a local goatherder in the 9th century, found a coffee plant and noticed his herd got a boost of energy from eating the wild cherries. He brought the fruit to a local monastery that threw them in the fire, pronouncing them sinful because of their effect on the goats.

But, as the coffee beans roasted in the fire, the aroma of fresh roasted coffee filled the air and the monks quickly fished the berries back out in order to inspect them further. It would be centuries before coffee would be processed, roasted, and enjoyed the way we know it today. 

This varietal, a local heirloom called Sidamo, is grown by a small collection of family farms in the highlands of the Oromia Zone of north central Ethiopia near the Yangudi Rassa National Park. The family farms work together to wash and sun dry the coffee together in a small cooperative before exporting. The natural processing provides a desirous coffee for our light-medium roast.

We think this coffee is perfect in a cold brew. The slow extraction method pulls out the caramel and vanilla flavors in a way drip coffee can't even touch. If cold brew isn't your style, we'd encourage you to try this in an iced latte or even a vanilla latte. We know you'll love it however you choose to enjoy it.
